Title: Rewiring ventura hollowbody:best place for output jack wire?
Post by: frank57 on October 05, 2012, 08:48:16 am
This old ventura hollowbody had a pickup going dead all the time.
I took out all the pots and the wires were totally falling apart.
The wires were braided shield over some type of rubber.
Totally falling apart in your hands.
I replaced all the wires and the ground wire left two original but I want to replace those as well.

Everything is working and I wired it as in the diagram similar to what they did.
They had the shielded wires running around across the pots every which way for some reason,
so I decided that was just a waste of good wire and ran separate teflon wires around the top of the pots to ground the pots.
I'm using a vintage style shielded cloth braided wire like gibson which is a thousand times better than the crap they used.

They had the output jack wire soldered to the top of the neck volume.
Is that neccessary?

Well, the output jack absolutely needs to be grounded, and the back of a pot is as good of a place as any.
