Title: Pot value ?
Post by: Stankfut on October 09, 2012, 11:20:34 am
Hey guys.......what would happen if I replaced a 500k volume pot with a 1meg? I have an amp I want to add a pull switch to but can't find one on a 500k at my usual suppliers. Thanks!

Take the 1M pot and place a 1M resistor across the outside lugs.  Now you have a 500k pot.

The taper will change, but you should be able to dial in the tone that you had with a 500k pot.

With respect, Tubenit

Without seeing the circuit it's hard to say, but in most amps that's not a critical value.  1M should work just fine.  You're likely not to notice a difference at all, or you might gain a hair brightness.
