Post by: plexi50 on November 07, 2012, 06:59:30 pm
Has anyone built a Pro 5E5. Sound any good?

I have had thoughts of building myself one, seems like a good amp to have. Maybe someday.

I built one.  Same as a 5E3 deluxe but with a 6l6 output stage.  I rarely play it, I have so many other amps I like better, including my 5E3.  That circuit sounds better with 6v6s, in my opinion.  I know many people really like the 5E5, though.
Sometimes I run 6l6s in my deluxe, but it has lower voltages and a smaller  output transformer that  gives more breakup or whatever.  Still like it better than the Pro.

I've never built the 5E5 or 5E5-A Pro.

But as Embo says, the 5E5 is the 5E3 Deluxe with 6L6's and big-ole 15" speaker. The 5E5-A will be exactly like the Super you tinkered recently (I think that was you anyway), except 6L6's (I think yours had 6V6's) and a 15" instead of 2x10".

That Super had a 5U4GA & a pair of 6V6 and 2x10". It was a cool amp. Just been looking at many different fender schematics latley and am searching for something new to build.
