Title: Country Led Zepplin on steroids
Post by: tubenit on November 17, 2012, 06:35:43 am
I stumbled on this and was amazed at how cleanly and fast this guy can pick!!   Country tele licks meet Led Zeppelin. Kinda funny.

Greg Koch - The Best Spank It Ever (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WSDfERKBst8#ws)

I've seen a couple of videos by him and he always seems to be humble and have a good sense of humor.  He seems to have fun with this tune.

Made my Sunday morning.

Sunday it's Saturday. You get all the news before we do. That's cheating.

Interesting guy.  Not only does he do demos for Fender but check out this extract from his bio;

Greg Koch (born June 14, 1955 in Bethesda, Maryland) is a former American football tackle and guard who played eleven seasons in the National Football League, mainly with the Green Bay Packers. In 2010, Koch was inducted into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame.[1] Koch was also inducted into the University of Arkansas Sports Hall of Honor. He is a licensed attorney and a part-time radio personality on SportsTalk 790 KBME in Houston, Texas.

Oh dear!!!  I am afraid that cancels out ALOT of those points that he earned being a great guitarist and football guy.

Very cool T, thanks for sharing...
That's a great example of a guy who never let the guitar sit on a stand or in the case (I'm guilty of both)

I remember seeing his instructional videos advertised in my Guitar magazines in the 80's........guess I shoulda been paying more attention

EDIT***11/26
I just ordered a chicken pickin DVD........and I'm really questioning my life choices to this point

Tone Quest Report interviewed him at least once as a cover story, IIRC.

Here he is again doing some Johnny Winter-izing and Duane +Elmore James+ Derick Trucks-in pluckin slide action. Almost as impressive as his playing is his big his melon-head.

SOLD • Gibson Custom Shop Johnny Winter Firebird • SN: 030 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0CWSMb2Zg88#ws)

So I missed this thread and didn't discover Greg Koch until late last year, mainly through videos like this:

Gibson Custom Shop Collector's Choice #5 Tom Wittrock 1959 Les Paul "Donna" • SN: CC05A108 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPZxX8LcGSU#)

And after watching a BUNCH of them, I had to keep watching for the humor as much as the fine guitars & playing.

Greg Koch Outtakes Vol. 1 • Wildwood Guitars (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iWt6RcOGkLs#)

And check out the tag line when Greg finishes trying out a real 1960 Les Paul:
