When you have a dream,,,you have to start somewhere,,,here it is......consider it a community effort that could take a year to materialize (the '13 project)
This is my idea for the future.....I waited 'til after the 22nd just to be safe and not waste anyone's last minutes here on earth...
Tell me what you think, tell me why it cant be done, tell me there is a better way, tell me it's been tried and failed, tell me it's the greatest idea you've ever heard................................:
Throw tradition out the window, for the sake of moving forward and attempting to create something that WILL sound somewhat unique, and offer players a simple, straightforward, option for a footswitchable workhorse that will cover a broader spectrum of tones/effects in one package....
Also toss aside budget restrictions and chassis size limitations.........let's imagine anything is possible
Build a dual chassis head with switchable effects at different locations in the signal path,
-2 channel amp based on Dumb ODS in bottom chassis....ACTIVE master Volume?? (plus, switchable solo boost)
-Multi individual effects built into upper chassis with separate power supply (toroid? tapped off of PT primary)....each effect separately switchable by means of a single floor board with 7 momentary pushbuttons........board will switch all amp and effect functions, using a specialty multi-pin amphenol style cable and connectors.......yes,,,you guys will have to help me design a floorboard interface too
Proposed signal chain:
-Compressor sustainer/ V1a / Tone stack-preamp Vol. / V1b / analog OD-Dist. / V2a / V2b / chorus / delay / reverb (Belton block OK) / recovery / Parametric EQ / Active? Master with switchable solo boost / PI / Power amp
So that's switchable effects,,,,2 amp channels,,,, Para EQ tone stack after OD channel,,,,solo boost
SIMPLE.....RIGHT? :icon_biggrin:.......c'mon , it's a new year,,,,,and we've got guys retiring from their day jobs

It can be and has been done, it just take a lot of planning, you can search http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?board=2.0 (http://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?board=2.0) for some examples, R.G. and Mark Hammer in particular have done quite a bit of writing on this subject. Also check out R.G.'s site at www.geofex.com (http://www.geofex.com), many great ideas presented there as well. Looks like you will be pretty busy in the new year. :icon_biggrin:

Hi SILVERGUN
can you draw a simply Block Flow Chart exposing your idea ?
this way it will be easier to follow you

SG you've been bite bad by the tube amp bug. You better seek professional help soon :icon_biggrin:
Can't wait to follow this thread once you get up and rolling.

With all that crap in the signal chain it's going to sound like a line 6.
Then when you build it and find out, you'll marvel at the wonderous tones of the simple Champ.....
Just sayin'

I love to see innovative ideas and people dream BIG .................. having said that ................
I like my amp and the effects to be separate. I use a delay pedal about 99% of the time. I have a half dozen excellent effects pedals now (some that I've built), but the truth is I seldom use them (other than the delay).
With respect, Tubenit

OUCH!!! :embarrassed:.......OH no,no,no,no,no....I would never let that happen!!
BUT, just to clarify,,,this is just an idea.......may never get off the ground, but it is how I've envisioned the future.
can you draw a simply Block Flow Chart exposing your idea ?
Here's a quickly thrown together chart of what it might look like:.....it's all up for debate,,,,and can take as long as it has to (we can rename it the '13, '14 project) :icon_biggrin:

Yup,,, I too use a delay a lot in my lead sound, and origianally was just gonna build one into a loop,,,,,,and then I started thinking that putting an EQ in there for shape and boost and then I started thinking,,,,,,"I wonder how many guys don't use their effect pedals becasue of the connection issues of where the effects "belong" in the signal chain.......
I used MIDI switching for years, but never really loved the digital units that the signal was going through,,,AND hated programming them....
I really wonder how difficult it would be to keep the integrity ot the tube tone, whilst intermingling effects throughout the path
I understand 100% why people wouldn't want to get involved in a project like this,,,,especially since the guy who is starting the thread couldn't do any of it without the rest of you...it's not like I'm saying "Here's what I'm gonna do,,,,standback and watch"....it's more like "Is this possible and what will it take?",,and "am I nuts for entertaining the thought?"
Just looking to stir the pot

tubenit; i don't mean to swipe this thread, but i would surely like to see your design, scem, layout or ? for the Delay you use. I like to use that pedal also as the main one and i rarely use anything else except a Blues Driver boss and rarely a Clean Boost. The delay i'm using is just adequate i.e. does not add noise but the depth etc is not very changeable.
If it would be better for me to PM something like this, just say so.
