Title: Stupid 5F1 Question
Post by: sclinchy on December 29, 2012, 04:43:18 pm
I built a pretty standard 5F1, but I'm not crazy about the single tone control.  Does anybody have any suggestions for replacing that with treble and bass controls?  I would think it would be easy, but I've looked at various possibilities (blackface circuits mostly) and I'm not smart enough to figure out how to integrate those into my circuit.

Any help would be appreciated.

A 5F1 does not have a tone control unless you added one. If so then it may be like the one used on a Princeton 5F2A .

It depends on how much breakup you want . If you use the Sf champ tonestack then you can wire it just like the SF champ and will need to used the bypass caps on the preamp (before the tone stack) and on the second gain ) after the tone stack usualy 25uf 25 volt electrolytics across the 1.5K cathode resisters and you will need two 250KA pots and use the 1 meg vol pot you have now.

5F1 has no tone control. It's a 1 knob wonder. I'd just replace the .02µF cap between the plate of the 1st triode and volume control of the 5F1 with the tone stack of the AA764. Refer to the following schematics/layouts...
