Congratulations on your retirement Sluckey!!! :happy1:
I enjoyed reading your bio info. and remembered this day was coming....you've been working for 40+ years, and you deserve to enjoy your golden years however you choose to spend them.....I'm sure Molly and the squirrels will love having you around more.
May you stay happy and healthy, and keep all of your marbles for another 40+ years!........you might have to invent a life-extension chamber,,,please just share the schematic...
Have a great "rest of your life"!

Is it today? Is it today! :happy1:

Thanks for remembering guys! It's final. My out processing was completed at 10:00am this morning. What a ride! I still can't believe they paid me to do that stuff! I was lucky to have had a job/career that I really enjoyed. And as an extra bonus, I worked with so many others that shared my interests and feelings. I hope y'all have the same feelings about your careers too.
-
OK, first you were bragging. Now you are just rubbing it in! I will never speak to you again....
Well done! :worthy1:

Retired?
What is that? :icon_biggrin:

Retired?
What is that?
It's a ticket to ride! I spent yesterday in New Orleans watching the Saints get kicked around. :sad2: Now I'm coming to Nantahala to catch me some white squirrels.

It's this; :m2 Guitars meh.... Now do what you and your wife want to do!

Congratulations Steve!!!!

You'll have to go to Pisgah National forest if you want to start that white squirrel ranch you have been dreaming about.
I'll turn over my collection to you so you can get jump started
-
Yeah, Pisgah is the one I meant, not Nantahala. Maybe you could ship me a young breeding pair. :icon_biggrin:

I'd have to interview them to see who is fooling around with who

If they are like their grey cousins, everybody is doing everybody.

FAA must be a better-oiled machine than the state outfit I retired from. Last day of work was September but the paperwork dragged on through March.
> I still can't believe they paid me to do that stuff!
Me too.
And thanks for guiding my flights. (Smacking the rectifier that powered the radar that air controllers used to guide my fights.) Haven't flown in a while, but it does seem I passed through your airspace while you were overseeing the tubes.
Congratulations.

Well DOT/FAA is done with me except for final paychecks. However, now I'll be handed off to OPM. There's still typically another 6 months delay before OPM gets my final annuity calculated and rolling down the wire to the bank. Fortunately, they will be sending me an interim check for about 75% of my estimated annuity.
It's gonna be quite an adjustment. Fortunately, I've been away from the radar site since April except for special projects or filling in when others were on leave. I've been doing mostly computer work. I call it being put out to pasture. So I've kinda been practicing retirement since April. :icon_biggrin:
The old radar is gone. No more tubes, transistors, diodes, resistors, caps, etc. I had to locally dispose all our old benchstock. The new radar is all modular and tightly integrated with two Sun stations. The maintenance concept is totally different. Even the test equipment is computer based. Heck, even the new spectrum analyzer boots thru Windows XP! There is really very little electronics work involved with the new system.
Anywho, I'm leaving at a good time. I'm depending on you guys to keep my brain oiled! :icon_biggrin:

I missed an FAA career by one guy! Way back I took the Air Traffic Control test and did quite well. However, there were 8 ex-miltary controllers in our group and I was bumped by the last guy. I was also 31 when I took it so I had run out of birthdays to try for the next testing cycle. A good pilot friend of mine at the time was a controller and a big help. Heck I could be retiring in 3 years had I made it! Sluckey, I'm sure you had more fun than I would have had!
Now you can write up and submit a proposal for outrageously priced consultation services on any old systems that might still be hanging around, cost comparison, maintenance trends, etc., etc....
Again, well done! Enjoy your new life!

Your life would have been different for sure. You would be plinking a LP. And that Major would never fit in the BMW trunk.
outrageously priced consultation services
There you go! Already got a couple nibbles.

Ah. Different TLA, same process. I left the university, the case went to a state office of pensions and paperwork. They even have a Board who must *vote* to approve each pension! (I'm sure the staff makes up a list, the Board says Aye and adjourns.)

Congratulations on living long enough to enjoy the fruits of your labors!
Do you live near New Orleans? I was just there myself, but we were smart enough not to be there on game day (camping on North Shore at Mandeville).
-
I live in Mobile, an easy 3 hours away from NO. That was my first Saints game. The whole downtown area was one big tailgate party!
-
Steve,
Man, I am happy for you, my friend!!! Very very cool. Congrats!
I got 4 more yrs to go before I "don't have to" work financially (hopefully) ..................
However, I'll probably just drop down to 3 days a week and push on til 70 ............ or maybe change careers at 66?
Enjoy life and those around you.
With respect, Jeff

Congrats, Steve!
Forty years is amazing to me, the longest I've ever stayed at one job is nine! I think that kind of longevity in a job is becoming rare nowdays. The best part is you got to do something you loved. Anyway, have fun with you new life and enjoy!
Another Steve

WHAT?? RETIRED??? Where the heck am I going to get giant tubes now? I broke the big FX2648A I had. I noticed I needed more power in my hand-held Death Ray gun and I was tinkering when... it rolled off the bench. I still have the 4-65a, though.
Congratulations!
-
Steve,
How is retirement going ????

3.5yrs left for me .......... then I'll probably cut down to 3 days wk til 70.
Would love to hear an update on your leisure life.
