A friend is using one of my rocket\AC30 type amps. Is there a document or thread that does a good job of describing how the treble and bass control work and interact. I can picture the wave forms in Duncans tone stack calculator and it makes sense in my mind but how do I explain how they work to a player who is non technical?

It's not that complicated.
The tone circuit divides the incoming guitar effectively into 2 bands controlled by the Treble and Bass controls. Turn either up/down, and that band is impacted. The overlapping frequency range between the controls (midrange) is generally a mid-dip, and excactly where it is centered shifts somewhat depending on the settings of the other two controls.
In large part, the controls behave not unlike a 60's Fender tone circuit, but the detail of how it sounds is a little different.
