Hi, I'd like to build / buy the best a b y amp switcher. Active, passive, I don't know. I want my guitar signal unmodified, no loss of signal, 25 feet of cable to amp no1 and same to amp no2. I have already built a passive one, but I see so many different schems with 1 meg, 100k, 47k or 4,7 k resistors here and there ( mixing resistors I guess ), that i can't figure the right way to do it.

my buddy plays through 2 blackface pros, and does not like the morley. a, and b are ok. but when you Y them, trouble. and if both amps have large potential difference in ground, humming, weak signal, all kinds of crap can await. there is box (red I think), but not 'red box', (small pedal sized ). this box, (the one I think is red, but large, and rectangular), that is transformer ''uncoupled''?. supposed to be the 'best', think it runs around 300+. better be at that price. about 14x4x6 guesstimate, and heavy. pro stuff. but even proprietary trans can be approximated. cheap second is available at geostompbox, or runoffgroove, or other stompbox site

I think the "red box" in Question is the Lehle Little Dual (http://lehle.com/EN/Lehle-Little-Dual) or Lehle Dual SGoS (http://lehle.com/EN/Lehle-Dual-SGoS).
These boxes always seemed like they might be the best ABY, but the price ($229 for the Little Dual, $349 for the Dual SGoS) has kept me from trying them.

Colas; here is the home page for generalguitargadgets and JD Sleep (merchant) just added a passive aby pedal (do it yourself) and he also added a simple IC based buffer to control signal loss which you can add to the aby pedal. I have found all of his kits and ready to solder pcb's to be top notch. Have a look.

I have a Morley ABY. Both of my amps have three-prong plugs, and I was experiencing wicked feedback through both in "Y" position. Solved the problem by adding one of those gray three- to two-prong A/C plug adapters to one amp. Was apparently creating a ground loop in "Y" position prior to using the adapter.

I've got an old Whirlwind Selector. It's not passive but has a circuit inside and takes a 9 volt battery or power supply.
One thing I can say about the Whirlwind it is was totally noiseless and even though it has a circuit I could never tell and coloration or degrading of signal, sounded completely natural. It's also great for doing channel switching on old classic amps with two channels. Crank one channel into OD and light volume in the other channel for cleans. Platefire
