Title: Deluxe 5A3 / Has Anyone Built One?
Post by: plexi50 on February 27, 2013, 11:03:09 pm
I know these are great sounding octal preamp tubes and i built something similar a few years ago like it.
It sounded very bluesy. Have any of you built this amp or own an original?

I built a Fender 5C3 for my son for a Christmas gift.
Built it 100% correct to the schematic using a circa 1950 Bogen PA that had early 50's tubes.
It sounded great...........I loved the tone!!
I am currently assembling parts to build myself one, but using 5691 tubes (heavy duty 6SL7 tubes) for the preamp and PI. The 5C3 has a 1 Meg feedback resistor, where the 5A3 and 5B3 doesn't. I can't decide if I want feedback or not. I also will use big bottle 6V6 tubes because the sound is a little fuller.

I have owned one of these , looks like a fairly simple build , they sound pretty good for a Fender  :l2:
