Title: Looking for Replacement Handle for '54 Gibson GA-40
Post by: Deuce 225 on March 08, 2013, 07:08:22 pm
I am restoring a '54 Gibson GA-40 and am trying to figure out the best solution for a replacement handle.  Any help would be appreciated.
Best,
Tim Cochran

Tim -

Sorry for not responding quickly.  I have a leather handle that is close to the original on one of my GA-40's.  This particular amp is non-working and untouched as near as I can tell, with original handle.  It's the one that I made the schematic from, that I attached in my post about another GA-40 that I repaired.  This handle is a bit longer, but worked great on the restored amp (mostly electronic).  I used a large fender washer split in half and tapped for 4-40 screws.  The cab that I used it on had way too many holes, from previous handles.  Plus, I didn't have the original bracket that Gibson used to secure these handles to the cab.

Anyway, it has silver hardware, though the originals had gold.  If you still need one, PM or email me with a shipping address.  Put 'Amp Handle' in the subject.

I restored a 1960 GA-40 and looked and looked for the "Gibson" name logo that goes on the grill but never could find one. End up making one out of vinyl base cove--I guess is was better than nothing. Platefire
