Title: Ao-29 parts
Post by: Seegs on March 10, 2013, 08:17:51 pm
i went to a local music trade show/swap meet. and was able to pickup some rola 12" speakers 10 ribbed alnico's. and this hammon ao-29. it seemed to have some decent parts in it. But from what i have gathered there is just a lot of crap in this. was wondering what are some good options to gut and remake an amp. was thinking of a 5e3 style or something along those lines.

the chassis and most of it all is trash but for the price i got it for i can't really lose

The power transformers are pretty beefy on these.  Quite a few taps on them.

The carbon comps could be OK, I would measure them for actual values, if used again.

Some caps may be OK, but I wouldn't use the lytics.

I have a couple hanging around myself, waiting for use.  One that used 6V6's, and the other 6L6's.
The chassis are pretty obnoxious, but I have seen folks build with them.

farm the iron and turret boards. scrap the rest. should make a nice 5E3 with tube rectifier or 6V6 plexi with SS rectifier. when i read these i am saddened somewhat b/c somewhere there is the scrapped remains of a M-100.

I'll just add that you will most likely need to drop the voltages a bit using this iron.  Its been my experience these can run high with modern voltages.
