I am building a F style reverb/tremolo footswitch. I want to add LED's, so should I use DPDT's? I know that without LED's, that SPDT's would be the correct choice, but I'm not sure if there is a way to wire the SPDT's with LED's???
Any thoughts, suggestions, etc...?

The typical Fender style footswitch dumps the musical signal to ground to "stop" the effect. Signal lifted from ground, the signal flows on through. This is why a single pole switch is perfect for the job.
If you want LEDs, you will need a power supply of some type to light them up. That can be easily accomplished with a DPST type switch, a battery and a resistor to limit the current flow through the LED.
One side of the switch handles the signal in typical Fender fashion and the other side handles the power supply to the LED.

I would use a DPDT for this reason. On a typical blackface fender amp with reverb and tremolo, the reverb switch must be open to have reverb, but the tremolo switch must be closed to have tremolo. So, if you want the LEDs to shine when either effect is on, you'll need DPDT to cover those bases. The trem in some brownface amps behaves differently. Either amp, the DPDT will handle it.

Silly me! Of course the LED wants to be ON when the effect is engaged.
Thanks for the correction Steve and sorry for the misdirection.

So, how would I wire the DPDT and LED's up? What value resistor should I use, and where should I put it? I apologize in advance for all of the questions, but I really am clueless about this stuff, and am trying to learn.
Any have a schematic of this layout? Thanks again, so very much!

I redrew this from memory of a layout I saw a while ago on another site...I think it's right. Hopefully it's close to what you need. Everything including a battery will fit in a Hammond 1590B case.
