Title: relay switching
Post by: Colas LeGrippa on April 21, 2013, 12:48:18 pm
Hi, I have never installed a relay in my life. I need a spst relay for switching on/off  a 12ax7 cathode cap and resistor. Voltages avilable in my amp are: 6.3v, 117v, HV and -45v.
what is the best way to do it to avoid any noise? I need approx 25feet of cable between the footswitch and the amp. I know very little about amplifiers relays.
Thanks !

Colas

I use the search feature frequently.  Everytime I do, I am very very grateful that someone has been kind enough to share information so readily to this amp building community.

Take the relay section in the ARCHIVES ................. there was a handful of us that worked collaboratively to compile that info in one place for others to benefit from.  It tooks a number of weeks and ALOT of editing. I think it's very cool that it exists and is easily available. Kind of an walk thru the process tutorial really.  Hoffman, Sluckey, Geezer and many others helped put that together for us.

You can probably run 25 feet of cable from a cathode without real problem. Clip or tack it together and try it. Unless your electrical environment is VERY ugly, it may not even have to be shielded cable. (I've run 440 ohm microphone lines 100+ feet past an elevator in cheap speaker wire.)

Ciao Colas

If you give a try to the "SEARCH" option that is between "HELP" and "PROFILE" (on the left of the screen) you will find an advanced Search Engine

I use often that function with satisfaction

you must consider that there you can find also more treads dedicated in some way to the argument you are looking for

and the more you can read about a thing the more is possible you find something of your interest

PRR, this is way more simple than with a relay !

Thanks for the tip.

Franco, I know the search engine, I was joking :icon_biggrin:

Good day to all

You know, I think I've discovered the advanced search engine after one year I was in the forum

before I used only the Search disposable at the right upper side   :l2: :l2:
