They have always been one of the best sounding live bands ever. They always had a HUGE sound. I think that backline was the best Laney ever produced. Supergroup amps and Fane speakers. Geezer was using the slaves off the main amp. Tony was using a PA speaker to reproduce the high freq distortion. They later gave that up for stacks of dimed 100watt Supergroups, 4x12 for Tony and 4x15 for Geezer. I like how they taped over the name plates since they could not negotiate advertising with Laney (at that time) - a very common practice with a lot of groups playing TV shows and doing movies.
I love the sound they got at the Cal Jam. Listen to the beginning of this song. Remember, they are outside and the amp is screaming in feedback. You KNOW all those amps were on pushing ALL of those cabs! That and Tony's trademark pick squeals - this is just too cool!
