I recently dug into a hand-wired amp that came in for repair and it used a really nice AWG wire that had thicker isulation on it than what I have seen available.There is no maker mark on the wire other than AWG.
It looks really nice in the amp and I was wondering where to get some of it.I have used Alpha solid and stranded and frankly find the insulation to be rather crappy.I still use cloth covered in a lot of amps and have used Alpha Teflon as well.
anyone use the thicker insulation wire?

American Gauge Wire (Brown and Sharpe) Comes in many different gauges and jacket thicknesses. Lots of new transformer wire has AWG printed on the side. It is the standardized system for measuring wire and is not necessarily a specific type. ACK Supply, http://www.acksupply.com/ (http://www.acksupply.com/) has some single strand as well as stranded with thicker PVC jacket if you want some.

AWG is a standard for the gauge of the wire not the insulation or weather it's stranded or solid , the wire you are looking for has a voltage rating of 1000 volts most common insulation is rated at 600 volts.

Voltage rating of the wire is almost always printed on the wire , the letters printed on the wire tell us if it is stranded or solid , treated for fungus(for wet locations and underground use) and weather or not it has a clear plastic insulation over the colored insulation (thhn will almost always have this)

Speaking of the cloth push wire (vintage copy), is that wire rated for 600v?
It just so easy to use but seems like not much insulation...?
