Title: 56 PLUS
Post by: tubenit on July 29, 2013, 04:47:51 am
This was inspired by DaGeezer's HoSo56 amp.

So, I am calling it the 56 PLUS   because it has a hot switch gain stage added and an active on board FX which works great as a master volume.  The hot switch works great, IMO.

EDIT:  really having LOTS of fun with this amp!!!  Great tone, IMO.  I changed the 360ohm power tube resistor for 270 ohm which gave it a little warmer tone while maintaining a nice clean tone available.

Also added a reverb version if someone would prefer reverb over delay in the active fX loop.

If you want to change the "extra triode" from the hot switch position to the more normalish dumblish type position of overdrive, here is a way to do it.  This preserves more of the touch sensitivity of the 5879 then the hotswitch position does.

BTW,  all you have to do is change 3 wires from the hotswitch version to make this conversion.

EDIT:  I made two small tweaks.  Upped the 2.2uf to 3.2uf on the OD cathode cap.  And removed the 250p bright cap off the OD volume pot.  The OD was too bright with that cap

EDIT    .   Filtering on node D was  increased from 16uf to 26uf by adding a 10uf parallel cap.  It simply tightened the bass response somewhat on the OD channel.

Beautiful amp.  Single 12?  What did you put in it speaker wise?

single 12" Emminence Cannabis Rex.   The Emminence Texas Heat sounds really good with it also.

I noticed you used a tweed style leather handle.  Must be fairly light amp.  What do you think it weighs?  It looks very interesting.

I have not weighed it, but I think it is just a tiny bit heavier than the Princeton Reverb I used to own. Lighter than a Deluxe Reverb.
