Hi,
I was going to install a Hoffman AB763 board into my Fender Custom Vibrolux Reverb. But now I am getting cold feet. Does anyone know of a capable amp tech in the Suffolk County, Long Island, NY area who can do this job?
Thanks in advance,
Sal

Sal, take some time and read and learn--start with this very "Tube Amp Library of Information" right here on this site. Search for other sites to learn from. The AB763 is the most popular guitar amp circuit ever and there is lots of stuff about it.. I remember the anxious feeling of clipping out a perfectly good working factory PCB out of my Reissue Fender Deluxe Reverb years ago. Yeah, I had some trouble but these guys helped me get it working fast. A monkey can do this...OK, maybe getting carried away. But if you have a spare amp to use for awhile, you should consider doing it yourself not just to save green but to learn. You will play guitar better if you have total knowledge and control of your amps sound. There are some safety practices you need to know to protect your health and your transformers. This is all documented. The important thing is not to rush. Think about it. Jim

What are you hoping to achieve by replacing the circuit? There is nothing wrong with PCB and I never change them out unless they get old and begin getting brittle. You can modify the PCB component values if you desire to tweak the amp or if you have some "designer" caps you want to use.
With the money you will spend on a tech plus the value of the amp, you could get a build by numbers kit and make the exact amp you desire and not destroy one in the process. Once completed, simply sell the one you have. I have played the reissue Vibrolux Reverb and the tone is really good. Just because an amp is handwired does not equate to better tone. The benefit to handwired is only the ability to easily tweak the amp and add modifications which if you want to do you might as well begin by building a kit. Anyone who can solder can build a kit. What you will likely have a problem with is lead dress and correct wiring, but you will get the help here to successfully complete the build. I have been reading this forum for a long time and never seen anyone who followed the instructions given by experienced techs here, fail. You have already found access to some of the best techs there are, the only difference is you will be holding the iron.
The largest change in tone and timbre comes from speaker swap and guitar type.
