I have a 1955 6v6 210 Super. It sounds great and I wouldn't change anything about it.
Everyone who has played this amp wants to buy it from me.
Has anyone heard both the 6v6 and the 6l6 versions of the amp?
Do they sound similar?
My buddy wants me to build him a similar amp with 4 6v6's to get a 35 to 40 watt output.
He doesn't think that he wants a 6L6 version of the amp.
Do I just parallel two more 6v6's and up the PT and OT?
What transformers would you recommend?

Two news transformers and bigger Chassis plus few more resistors and capacitors .
I don't know if need more mods like in Phase Inverter ?
Super ; Tweed narrow panel with 2X 6V6 ; 5E4-A schematic

Yup. Use 5F4 spec PT, choke and OT.

If it is all original i would not alter the chassis or transformers. A clone is a good idea. Worth a few bucks these days/

What plexi said (I skipped the bit about it being a vintage Super when I first read the OP)

I believe he is speaking of a clone for a friend. A transformer PT for the 5F4/6L6 has more voltage and will cause the plates on the 6v6 to run high, possibly too high. The OT could work well considering the wattage and 4 6v6. A 5k OT. Optimally, you would want 4k, but a replacement OT similar the 40 watt Super Reverb will work.
The 6v6 version sounds very similar until a good volume is reached. I have had both and now I have 2 5f4's with 6l6. One is stock, finished combo, tweed/Oxblood. The other is caged head and is modded some. Sounds great with 2/12. A 5f4 is the cleanest tweed amp, but I do not know what your 6v6 version sounds like. It is very hard to distinguish power tube differences without a healthy volume.
If your friend likes the tone of your amp, but wants more volume you could simply use more efficient 10 inch speakers if yours has original speakers. For instance, 2 eminence Red Fang 10's will produce more volume with 2 6v6 than old Utah's or jensens. Much more, and that is why most desire more watts.
To answer you tho, I prefer 5881 Tung-sol USA, with a 5751 in my V1 and a smooth plate Telefunken 12Ax7 in the PI with fixed bias. A TMB tone stack with presence.

What I want to build is a clone of my 5e4-a with an extra set of 6v6's.
The schematic for the 5e4-a shows 390 volts coming off the rectifier.
I see that Weber has a 5e3x2 with 4 6v6's. They don't show any voltages on their schematics or layouts.
Their W022798 PT is 720v@200ma with 6.3@6a and 5v@3a
Their W404243 and W404248 OT's are 4k, 40w with 2,4 and 8 ohm taps.
Would this be a good place to start?

Yeah, you could do that, but...

Yup. Use 5F4 spec PT, choke and OT.
I have a 5F4 Super copy. As Tubeswell said, the correct PT choke and OT for that amp will also be correct for 4x 6V6.
