oh cool, nice work.on your old radio conversion did it originally have a electro dynamic speaker where the ot is on the speaker?i'm wanting to convert an old silvertone from 1937 or 38 that has that config.
-
This old radio had a field coil speaker (electro magnet) and the OT was mounted on the speaker frame. Very common for the time period. I never saw the original speaker assembly. It was long gone when I got it.
-
so for the conversion all you had to do was replace the ot and you could use modern speakers?no other special wiring or components?

This was not a conversion. The only electrical component I reused was the power transformer. I totally gutted the radio and built a J12 in the empty chassis.

cool RCA combo. maybe you could use the push-buttons to select bypass caps? or gain? or some such? :icon_biggrin:

right you converted the radio into a guitar amp, lol.good, seeing that gives me hope for mine.do you have any sound clips of that rca in action?

I had hoped to do something like that with the push button assembly. But it was just too rusty and crusty. I wasted about 4 hours trying to get it to function reliably. I finally gave up and just cleaned up the front side enough to be presentable.

THANK YOU AGAIN!
I loved your website the first time I saw it, and its just been an invaluable resource,,,, with some great eye candy
It reminded me of what the internet should be used for, and I enjoy the simple layout with links that work and make sense....
I was very sad to imagine that it was heading into retirement.
The clear, concise documentation of your work should live on forever.
Maybe, if you put some advertising on there, Comcast will keep it going,,,,when they realize how many hits it gets a year :icon_biggrin:
Thank you for taking the time out of your life to show us all how it's done

Oh it was Comcast. I've had nothing but problems with them. :BangHead: :cussing:

sluckey, Great site!
I didn't cover everything but what I did I enjoyed. I really liked the pix of your high school band in 65--same year I graduated. Looks like your band was a lot better equipped than our 3 piece(no drummer) + smalled amps & cheaper guitars.
I did read about the Tweed Deluxe Reverb. It was like a good book, I couldn't quit until I went through the whole thing. Also went over the restoration of your friends becrepped magnatone.
Everything is so well laid out and documented. Excellent Work! Platefire

Cool stuff Steve
Good luck with Comcast
I get more bounced customer emails from Comcast addresses than any other ISP
Not sure why they are always having issues
It has been better lately
