Title: Mesa/Boogie TA-15 & Cut/Master switch noise
Post by: W1Jrv on September 28, 2013, 03:56:04 pm
purchased a TA-15 last year at GC. it was already a return item. According to GC due to no effects loop.

the Cut/Master switch at about 6-7 o'oclock when pulled makes a lot of scratchy noise to me. enough that it really bugs me.

the unit also seems to be quite a "hissy" unit when vol gets close to 12 o'clock and over.

i've posted to tech at Mesa and response was sorta in the realm this is ok. guess i'm spoiled with my Fender amps cuz the two i own i don't make this type of noise when turning a knob.

i want to post here and ask if this is "normal" for this unit and any suggestions or ideas to why this is happening.

If you hear a scratch noise when you turn the knobs may be a bit of contact cleaner spray can solve the problem

About hiss isn't impossible to give a response also if someone is owner of the same model

the perceived level of hiss may be subjective, about this it will be better if you post a brief sample

i'll try the contact cleaner suggestion.

i'll see about getting a sample of my perceived impression of the hiss. it could be just that (my) impression.

contact cleaner didn't correct the noise with that master push/pull switch.

as for a sample, my phone wasn't too good at recording. i'll try something else to get the sound bite.

You might have some DC on that pot... perhaps a leaky cap.

perhaps. i found a auth service place here in town per mesa's website. i'll call em tomorrow & hopefully get it out there to there shop and they can tell me... if there is something actually needing a fix or i'm being just too picky.

appreciate all the help
