Title: foot switch jack
Post by: Bugman3183 on November 11, 2013, 09:11:39 am
Hello all, I recently finished a cab for an 18 watt tmb I built a while ago that had a Cascade switch on a dpdt on the front panel.   Before I install the amp I wanted to make the Cascade mode  foot switchable.  Unfortunately I know absolutely nothing about relays, but I have gone through the archives and gathered information and more I'm ready to give it a shot.   The thing I can't seem to figure out is what kind of Jack to use for the foot switch.   Any help would be greatly appreciated and sorry for the lengthy post.  Thanks

I would use a Marshall style 1/4" phone jack that has the sleeve isolated from ground.

Cool,  thanks.   Does it matter whether it's mono or stereo?

No. Either will work but since you will only have one switch the mono jack is all you need.

Do you have 1 function or 2 for the footswitch?

If you only have one thing to turn on/off, mono is fine. If you have 2 different things to turn on/off (with separate switches), use a stereo jack.

If you think you might need 2 switches in the future, get a stereo jack, as it can still be used in mono mode.

Great!   Thanks a lot for the info.   Now I finally order my part.
