Title: 15 Watt LED

I was in Costco today. I've recently considered building an LED strobe and noticed they have a 1000 or so Lumen LED spot light that consumes 15 Watts power. What are the thoughts on cutting the spot light up and rigging heat sink and current source for the spot light LED, then mounting the assembly into some sort of hand held construction?

Would this be similar to the High Power Tactical lights that are selling for a hundred or so bucks? What if I put a green filter over the bulb and strobe it at about 30 -45 hz for dissuasive purposes if some one were to become obstinate? I looked into a small $40.00 light in a sporting goods store and it interfered with my vision for about 30 seconds. Before you conclude it was dumb to have done that, I wouldn't have done it with a higher power light than what was used in the experiment. Certainly not with a milliwatt power laser. The purpose was to determine what 140 Lumen did to temporarily jam vision. Not as bad as a camera flash tube but certainly disruptive.

Any thoughts??

Thanks EL. I checked out the sight. I hadn't realized flash lights had gotten that powerful. I also had looked at them in BatteriesPlus and the prices are exorbitant.

One of the problems I've had in the past with nearly every cheap flash light I purchase is the switch. It sounds like they can be replaced in the higher end models.

btw, while I was there I watched a video that came up as a suggestion. It was a purchased 1.4 watt hand held laser. The guy takes it into a run off drain to test it and it looks like a light saber from Star Wars. By the way he was handling it I got the sense the operator wasn't himself too bright!

I think, If I were too, and I'm not,  that would be the place to start.

You also need a two pack of 18650 batteries and a charger
