Title: deluxe reverb with el84s
Post by: phsyconoodler on December 16, 2013, 12:00:41 pm
Just built a deluxe reverb with el84s for a guy and what can I say but...wow! Killer grindy deluxe/marshall tones. It overdrives so beautifully with either humbuckers or single coils. Im embarrassed to say it drives nicer than my 18 watt builds. Go figurr!

Phsyco, did you do any mods to the PI or leave it stock?

Curious to know plate/screen voltages you ended up with on the EL84s.

Same here psychonoodler. Some people complain about the harshness of EL84 tubes but not me. I love'em! It's all a matter of the preamp values used to me. I love my 1993 Classic 50 410. I would never sell it!

Im at 420v on the plates and 400 on the screens. I have  a 5r4 rectifier for testing should have an nos 5y3 in later this week. With fixed bias it should be fine. I have it at -19v right now. I tried the stock pi values and I like it but it is a bit too grindy too early so gonna go with 470k grid and an 820 bias resistor
