Title: Can't you hear me knockin'?
Post by: jojokeo on December 18, 2013, 05:31:37 pm
Ola lady and gents. Here's something I made last night on a whim, just sharing an amp build and a song.
Had an outdoor festival gig back in October with this amp "The Sheriff" (couldn't name it Marshall afterall). It was captured on a small hand held digital recorder so very directional. So I put the old build photos of the amp along with it to make this little submission.

*Happy 70th B-Day to the guy that topped all the lists & charts as "the rock star least likely to make it through the year". Who'd have ever guessed he be going this long???

What is the chassis coating?
This was one of my first attempts at doing my own thing build-wise and had a couple chassis made of steel rather than aluminum which I prefer now for numerous reasons. I guess I didn't know better back then. There's a whole number of things I do a bit differently now, but I had it power coated to keep the rust away. The photos make it look as if it's got a good amount of texture to it but it's not too bad and doesn't get finger prints all over it as a result...so it's got that going for it... (Caddyshack reference)
There's some deserved criticism for sure on a number of things but the song was added last minute (and a few others). We were able to invite the Jack "the sax man" to sit in on a few sax songs and this was one of the results. But that's what makes live music fun, it's not perfect and you only get one chance at things.
Thanks guys!

AHhhhh.......ya got me
I'm gonna play it off like I meant 'live from the Steel Wheels tour'  :icon_biggrin:

I never really truly appreciated how they intertwined parts until I sat in the middle (3 rows back) at the that tour, and got a taste of each of their stage feeds.......stereo awesomeness,,,with one guy throwin' out a riff and the other answering back....

Great video--thanks for posting.  I was also curious about that coating.  It looks so good.

Jojo,
Sorry, I dont know how I missed this one!  Great stuff brother!  Only one problem, I can hear the horn guy...  You have to build something much bigger to completely drown him out! :icon_biggrin:

I don't always see the "other stuff" on these other headings either. I suppose I don't have my settings set that way? Funny, I've got the amp down like on 3 or 4 even for an outside deal miked thru a PA but I had no problem hearing it. I'm next to the bass player and get the stink eye & complaining when up too loud (he's got tinnitus - sucks for him) but everyone else doesn't really complain. Myself, I can never get enough volume it seems.  :icon_biggrin:

Diggin it baby.  Gotta love someone who ain't afraid to cover the Stones.  Cuts through nicely.  I've got tinnitus as well, but it really does not bother me to be loud.  To be honest I do prefer sound systems of today.  We don't have to have such loud stages.

I remember playing a club one night and the bass was so strong it was actually vibrating my eyeballs and blurring my vision, but the tinnitus came from a 10" gun.

great video and great build.  Fun Fun Fun.
