Boz Scaggs 1969 with Duane playing lead. :icon_biggrin:
Duane was 22(?) to me sounds like a rose wood fret board strat through a BF Fender (bassmen 2x12"?) WITH NO REVERB, that's about as dry as a bone as you can get in the mix down at the studio they should have added at least at bit more plate verb.
Nothing to hide behind with the very clean tone, no wash of verb and no delay AND he's not hiding behind a tone of notes played at a fast pace to cover up anything either.
But still, he's able to BUILD a solo OVER 12:45 on top of a BIG FULL BAND. You wanna talk about NOT running out of ideas? It's very easy to just play a whole lot of notes but what are you really saying?
It was recorded at the famed Muscle Shoals recording studios in Alabama playing with world class studio players and some 22 year old long haired kid (remember this was 1969 in the deep south, with money on the table as far as recording sales?) is the center piece of the recording!
Drums, bass, grand piano, Hammond/Leslie, 5 (?) piece horn section and at 22 he's at the helm!
Listen to him flow with and build his lead with the timing changes and the horns! Every timethe band changes time Duane changes his "attitude, his feel, the way he attacks it", in the way he's playing.
Yeah, eat a peach my friends! (from an old Duane quote about when asked about what Duane was going to do about peace.)

I was just wondering. Seems like every time you mention Allman you start talking a little dreamy, then disappear for about a day. :icon_biggrin:

Really????? You got me "Fired up" ABOUT WHAT?????? About trying to point you in a different direction then "if I just coluld have more gain? More distortion? So you think that "All I need" is to have MORE DISTORTION TO GET MORE SUSTAIN AND PLAY BLAZING FASTER THAN THE LAST FASTEST GUN and THAT MAKES MUSIC?????
Look, I love our brother Jimbob and yes he's "throwing fire crackers down your pants" and that's Jim, BUT IMO he still has a GREAT deal of common sense/truth in what he says.
He has the writting ability to mix the 2 together and IMO he's very hard to top at that!
But I'm NOT!!!!!! PLAYIN with you!
Jim is Jim and Bradley is Bradley and so is our friend Ed..
Were all trying to give you examples of music to help you grow as a player!

The best example of music to grow with IMO is to listen to anything other than guitar and then try to play it on guitar. Coping sax is pretty good, but learn this on guitar.
Floyd Cramer - The Old Piano Roll Blues (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHMPr7lnPtk#)

And here is ragtime on guitar.

Yep. A very, very good blues guitar player told me that years ago. It helps break you out of playing guitar instead of playing music on a guitar. Their 2 different things. I think that's what Jim is saying about Blackmore, he's doing way more then just playing guitar and I agree.

OOps....
I hads a feeling I went too far..... :embarrassed:
I'll take that as a public beat down,,,and talk to you off the forum

Sounds like you're assuming that I need examples (because my taste sucks) and that I need to grow as a player (because my taste sucks, then therefore I need assistance getting some new taste, which will hopefully help me fix my distortion laden 'obviously hiding something' playing)
If I had feelings to get hurt in a public forum like this,,,,I might actually read into it that far....
But I'm still joking around with guys I like and respect,,,and I am playing,,,and I apologize if I crossed a line

No that's not it. Nobodies saying you can't play.
It's about developing a deeper, wider, stronger foundation to build on.

SG... Take a trip to Macon, Ga. Get on Hwy 41 headed south toward Valdosta. Notice all those wide open pasture lands out in the countryside. Pay close attention to all those small green mounds that dot the pastures. Them's cow turds. And there's gold in them turds. Rurmor has it that those Allman boys have all the choice sites marked. But you gotta know what to look for. Only by closely examining them cow turds can you achieve the 'deeper, wider, stronger foundation' that Willabe talks of.

Very nice, I have never heard this. It says simple song at the beginning, but it is not that simple. These guys have a ton of history and many influences. They seem to be very impressed with Lyle. Mee TOO.
Lyle must be able to touch the soul as I am sure it was not his looks that snared Julia.
Great post.

Jeez Brad, I appreciate the props, but to tell you the truth, I think your taste sucks...... And SG is officially a lost cause.
Yer Pal,

Jim, I am disappointed. Normally you do not sugar coat your comments. I like Lyle Lovett and his large band.
