Title: Does anyone make a IEC receptacle to fit a 1 1/8" hole?
Post by: dbishopbliss on January 22, 2014, 08:27:35 pm
Probably a niche market, but with so many people converting their Fender amps to have 3 prong power cords, it seems like someone should make an IEC receptacle that fits in the AC receptacle hole.  Does anyone know if such a product exists?

I do often , just need to modify the power cord retainer , the grummet. Inside the grommet where it push on the cord .

I never done a bigger hole in the cab.

That's not what he's talking about. He's talking about removing the big round two prong AC receptacle found on the back side of a Fender amp. And installing an IEC power connector in the big round hole that's vacated by removing that receptacle.

I've never seen a rectangular IEC connector that has a round body sized to fit that big hole. Have you?

That actually looks pretty good.

I have done it this way on a couple of my old Fender amps. It did not require any modifications to the chassis, but I think I enlarged the holes in the IEC socket slightly and may have had to file the square corners of the IEC for it to slip through the hole (can't remember if that was needed). I kept the old sockets to re-install if I ever sell the amps. Not a perfect solution but it works for me.

Who says you can't put a square peg in a round hole?  I didn't think of that... now I need to find an IEC socket with similar mounting hole spacing.

Is that the one offered by Doug?

Great idea! Theoretically you could even leave an old stock 2-wire AC cord physically in place (disconnect it of course!!!!!!!!!!!!) if you had to be stock.

Countersunk phillips next time!

Just pickin' on ya. Seriously, a fine idea.

Look what i found in the parts bin.  And this one was cryogenically frozen so it should make my amp sound really great!

For the record... I didn't actually buy it.  I was sent to me by mistake in an order years ago and I was told to keep it.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Every dead PC power supply has one of them.
