Title: Peavey MX: Any opinions?
Post by: eleventeen on February 01, 2014, 01:02:44 pm
I'm really torn on this/these. I can buy two of these (1 alive, 1 dead) for $150 total (and $20 of gas to drive there & back)  which is below the valued-at-dirt parts cost. These amps are semi-unique (I believe some MusicMan amps used this schema, SS power amp wiggling the cathodes of quad-6L6-type outputs)

On one hand, they have a reputation for being darn good amps. Still, they will be only 1 speaker-and-a-half lighter than a Twin Reverb (meaning very heavy) and there's no modding anything on these (with possible exception of shutting off one pair of 6L6's)

Value:

8 qty used 6L6 @ $5                    = $40
2 qty Black Widow spkr, used         = $40
2 qty reverb can (prolly 600 ohm in) = $30
2 qty UL Output trans, 100 watt      = $40
2 qty phat power trans                  = $40
2 good condition, reusuable cabs,
handles, corners                           = $40.

That's $230 in conservative parts value.

I guess I am talking myself into this deal.
