I can't get rid of this bzzzz!
I put in new pots, new wire, new switch , new jack and nothing gets rid of it.
Is it the foil on the pickguard?
It was working fine a few days ago but now I'm stumped.
Any Ideas?
It sounds like it has to do with the output wire but changing it did nothing.
I put in a new ground wire and still bzzz.
I had a Duncan sh-4 in there and everything was working before.

This is the layout , not sure how you buit it .
Anyway this layout is incomplete , not good.
1- Pickups show 2 grounds ; Where they go ?
2- Pots body must go to ground ; nothing on layout !
If you built like the layout , sure you'll have some buzz

Maybe the problem is a PU -- bad ground connection internally. Maybe install one PU at a time to isolate the culprit. An extra ground wire from the metal body of the PU might work.
Do both PU's generate signal?

Aha! I figured it out.Crappy soldering iron!
I bought some better equipment(a lot of bang for the buck)
(http://www.amazon.ca/Displays-Soldering-Real-time-Fahrenheit-Temperature/dp/B00C04FADG/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1400781119&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=yahua+soldering+station (http://www.amazon.ca/Displays-Soldering-Real-time-Fahrenheit-Temperature/dp/B00C04FADG/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1400781119&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=yahua+soldering+station)) and problem is gone .
I put in a 59 as well only now I can't seem to get the highs I had before with the JB.
I have the 59 about 1/16 from the bottom of the strings and the jb about 1/8 away.
The pole pieces I left all the same.

Good! So it was a bad solder connection?

That seems really close, too close.

It looks like my soldering iron that I used before had a crap tip or something like that.So far with this new heat controlled gadget I'm doing way better. The setup on the guitar was exactly that when I bought it though.
Maybe 3/32 would be better for the neck?
The ground wire to the claw is actually on the volume pot.
The tone control stopped working and looks like it was crappy soldering again.
I resoldered the cap going from pot to pot with new solder and that seemed to solve that.

That doesn't mean whoever setup the guitar before did it correctly. And correct PUP height might be different for you.
Some like their PUP's closer and some like them farther away from the strings.

You typically get more highs and less output/midrange if you lower the pickup. Also, judging by Duncan's soundclips (http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/electric/humbucker/), the JB is just a hair more forward with highs.
The JB has higher d.c. resistance, so it should have higher output. If you've been raising the '59 to match the JB's previous output, you probably have it too close to the strings to get a clear sound.
The other brightest setting of humbuckers is (along with setting the overall pickup height low) to raise the adjustable polepieces. When they get adjusted outward from the pickup body, it lowers the pickup's inductance some and will contribute to a brighter sound.

Actually I've been lowering the jb to match the 59 like in the original configuration.
The original pickups had a high output bridge as well and that sort of setup does even them out pretty quick.
I lowered the 59 slightly.I'm getting a big warm sound out of it.
At 3/32 there is less output but also a drop in overall warmth a bit.
I don't hear any distortion in the clean setting. It's a very warm sounding guitar(basswood).
What Ii found is that if you put the pole pieces out on the jb it actually sounds darker from the lower position.
I raised the treble side a bit and that seemed to get it closer to where i had it.
The pickups sound like they adjusted the polepieces at the factory.
they're very evenly balanced string to string.
they seem very sensitive to the height as compared to the old ones.
the jb was originally from a jackson soloist.
