You don't have to graduate from any school, but you do have to understand some basic electronics.
A school, is not gonna teach you what needs to be serviced in a Vintage fender amp.
Obviously, the tech that had that Deluxe does not know how to work on vintage amps
Uh, obviously you don't know who I am?
I can only say that a piece of paper can not, in any way, replace the experience acquired through years of practice, I know electrical engineers who have the good sense to admit that about tube amps they don't know almost nothing
intelligent knows a lot
the wise man knows little
the fool knows everything

I did not say what you said. We are having some communication problems. What I said was "without regard to tech school" which means I am not arguing or debating anyones points in regards to school. In other words, the original question had nothing to do with the topic of tech school.
You do not need to be a electronic tech to be a good person and be happy in life. You can also do well repairs.
But you can not call yourself a tech.
It also will be more honest with customers
Uh, obviously you don't know who I am?
There are those who Teach and those who Learn
Doug,
To answer your question without regard to tech school, I would say all the paper mallorys for starters. I would assume the ground connections since the year and maybe the brass plate may need a tad of cleaning. Like I said, I would have to have the amp. I am sure the dropping resistors have drifted. Who knows. Just a look at the doghouse lets me know it was not checked out at all. It still having the dual mallorys in the board is quite insane IMO.
technician (tɛkˈnɪʃən) [/t][/size]

and the most important part, experience
You cannot buy experience at a school
I don't think you understand the definition. Here it is above
"Tech" or "Techie" is short for "Technician".
World English Dictionary
technician (tɛkˈnɪʃən)
a person skilled in mechanical or industrial techniques or in a particular technical field
a person employed in a laboratory, technical college, or scientific establishment to do practical work
a person having specific artistic or mechanical skill, esp if lacking original flair or genius

Doug,Doug,

Ed did answer the original question
Not to mention all the other things that Vintage fenders always need to have done,
like checking solder joints, cleaning pots, biasing the amp, etc, etc, etc
Hard to believe an amp tech let this amp out of his shop in that condition
I have never seen a thread get so hijacked so quickly.
And yes Doug, I know who you are. You sell parts for vintage amps, believe the economy is in ruin, have a garden and dogs, drink beer and make beer. Ride and sell bike parts. You used to build amps till you wised up and moved to the Mountains. Selling parts to amp builders is more profitable and not a frustrating as trying to explain to someone that there amp does not sound good because they cannot play. :l2:
Hmmm. Let's see, Leo Fender went to college as an accounting major. Good thing he never built amps!Built one hell of a company tho. Built a guitar or 2, but in your opinion only 1. Sorry, couldn't resist.

Uh, obviously you don't know who I am?I don't know and this not give to you that you can write something wrong .
You do not need to be a electronic tech to be a good person and be happy in life.
All that means is that you have your own definition and choose to ignore the real definition
I did not say what you said. We are having some communication problems.

I never read Leo Fender calling himself a tech . Don't you ?
Uh, obviously you don't know who I am?
I lived close to a couple of National Laboratories, To qualify for a tech, You needed a Bachelors Engineering Degree, and a 3.5 in college to get your foot in the door. ...
aahh... thanks Doug. I'm still getting the hang of FB

Timbo, I love ya buddy,
Its CHUCK thats the idiot
Hey EL, I agree that a piece of paper doesn't make you a good at what you do, experience does but a piece to paper might just keep you out of jail, well here in OZ anyway. :icon_biggrin:Timbo, I appreciate what you contribute and you attitude. I meant no disrespect to you. I applaud anyone who applies themselves to learn and apply a new task and learning. Character cannot be seen from a piece of paper.
I will ban myself until the next time I visit the forum
Does that work for you?
