Title: powering new filter caps
Post by: Jomamma on July 21, 2014, 03:00:38 pm
I know this is an old topic but:  What's the best way to power up new filter caps?

i have a variac- and sadly I've never used it.

I also have a box I made using Gerald Weber's method of powering up new caps with a 100watt light bulb.

your thoughts please, and thank you.

I just install them, connect a volt meter, and flip the switch.

Connect the red lead to the positive side of the cap, black lead to neg. side. FWIW, I never worry about slow power up either. But it IS always a good idea to use the lamp limiter after doing anything inside the chassis the first time you flip the switch.
