Before I go downloading, installing and learning the program, I thought I'd ask (since I'm lazy). Will I be able to import the images from some kind soul for the components, or do I have to make my own? I am mightily impressed with the Visio layouts I see on here, and would love to have something better than what I do now.

All of the the custom shapes seen in my layout drawings are available on my website. Others on this forum may have additional shapes/stencils.

i have a quite a few transformer, socket, and terminal patterns.

Sluckeys components are great and he has a bunch of them
But, it's really easy to edit any of those and create your own version, which is what I have done
I like .01 grid spacings and I had to alter a bunch of them to fit exactly to my grid
I edited a bunch of other things if I needed to customize parts for my layouts
Visio is pretty awesome

Visio is awesome. It's also about $200 (I didn't know at the time) and I just can't justify that. So, I've been making better, to-scale components in SCH and using the .1 grid space like you do. Started using that since it's what perf and strip boards are sized to.
Takes nothing away from the fact that there's an unbelievable amount of generous people on this forum!

using the .1 grid space like you do
I use a .01 inch grid for schematics in visio
I use a larger grid for layouts
.296875 x .19685 which is the same grid for my turret boards
You can have different X and Y grid spacings in visio and my CAD programs
I don't think SCH will do that

No, it won't. But it makes it easy to size the components to scale. Eventually I'll get around to building a couple amps I've got in mind and will just use your design program to get the boards drilled.

It's easy in visio to resize components and then save them as a new component if you want to
I just updated the Turret lug program so you can choose Black or Natural color board

Do an online search for Visio. Don't buy from Microsoft, buy from an authorized "Microsoft Partner/Vendor".
I just got a copy of Visio Professional 2013 for $120, and might have found cheaper elsewhere. If you're on a slow connection, watch out that it's usually delivered via download.
I used to be able to get it for $10 through a home-use program, but they phased-out Visio for us and there are some other odd controls that prevented me from trying that route on my new computer.
