Title: Classic Tone PT
Post by: TIMBO on September 08, 2014, 02:06:41 am
Hi guys, Got a Magnetic Components Classic Tone PT rated at 120mA. I just want to check with you guys that it has enough mAs to hang 2xEL84s, 12AX7 PI,12AX7 Vibrato, 12AX7 Reverb and 2x12AX7 Preamp. My calcs about 108mAs

Also, the heater as my calcs add to 3.02A and the PT has 1x5/6.3v@2A and 1x6.3CT@3A.
Is running that .02 over the 3A as specified going to do damage or do I ditch a tube rect and use the extra tap for the heaters.

I just had a thought, if I was to use an EZ81@1A that would free up 1A to heat a couple of 12AX7.  :icon_biggrin:

this one? (http://www.classictone.net/40-18056.pdf)

if yes, then yes.

5V/6.3V is intended for use as EZ81 or GZ34 depending on the tap you use. the 6.3VCT winding is for pre and pwr bottles. the 20mA added heater load is insignificant. use it if you use decide to use VT recto.

other options:
run SSR - B+ would be around 330-340V, use the 6.3VCT winding for the power bottles and tie the CT to the power bottle cathodes (assuming you're cathode biasing); use the 6.3V winding with a virtual CT for the preamp/small signal bottles.

5 12Ax7 bottles - 1.5A on 6.3V 2A winding
2 EL84 bottles -  1.52A on 6.3VCT 3A winding

both windings would be "loafing".
