Title: ECL 86 ?
Post by: Toxophilite on October 25, 2014, 01:18:31 am
Anybody do anything interesting with the pentode/triode ECL 86 ?
I have a few telefunkens still sealed in their original boxes. Wondering what to use them for.

Oh and could one use a EL84 single ended OT for a revibe as I have an old grundig reel to reel that might be good parts (PT and OT and choke) for a revibe build

This idea uses a 6BM8 but you certainly could substitute the ECL86 IF you have a lower B+ rail.

AND if you had a low enough PT like 190-0-190 with enough ma current,  ............ you could use a solid state rectifier and get the build down to just 3 tubes.

The schematic I'm showing you is pretty close to the topology on the SoLow Watt amp I built.

There are a bunch of low watt push/pull ideas here:

The Hammond AO-44 uses that tube. Here's my conversion project...

That EL84 SE OT should work fine in the revibe circuit.

Sluckey,

I forgot that you built that.  That's a really super nice amp design!  Thanks for sharing it!

Best regards, Tubenit

the OT probably. the PT probably as well, but it would be nice to know what the winding output specs are.

ECL82 or ECL86 both make great reverb driver/recovery tubes in a 1 tube reverb

Hi Toxo, As tubeswell said, these TV type tubes were all our early amp builders could get there hands on and they made great amps with them.
