Title: Completed TDR pics
Post by: SILVERGUN on November 12, 2014, 03:16:09 pm
Here's one for y'all...
I'm gonna miss this amp when it's gone because it has been the source of some good old fashioned amp-inspired playing recently....everytime I plugged into it, I would wind up playing for about a half hour before I even knew what happened.

The chassis, iron and sockets began their lives as a Judybox 1x12 combo that I picked up locally last year for $80,,,with some additional parts, supplies, etc., from a guy who was done with it all.
The guy who I built this for just wanted it in a head cab, so I used one of those 2 pine head cabs that I built last year because luckily, the chassis fit right in there....so no additional woodwork was needed.

I gutted the chassis except for the heater wiring, and replaced the stock OT.
The circuit is my take on Sluckey's Tweed Deluxe Reverb,,,with 90% just as he planned it and the other 10% my own interpretation. I was completely shocked by how much I loved the sound and feel of this amp, and I suggest that anyone considering a low wattage AB763'ish type, go right ahead and start ordering parts.

So, the guy wanted a blue LED back-lit face panel that would shine through his nick-name ( RHINOL )....he listed his tone references as Jerry Garcia and Trey A. and just said he wanted some clean, with a little grit at a lower output,,,and this is what I came up with. I used wooden letters on a clear Plexiglas background to get the shine-through effect, and I like it, unless I look at it too long and start picking out my mistakes. I used some Grateful Dead'y looking letters that I found at Michaels and just trimmed 'em top and bottom to fit the faceplate.

He's picking it up tonight, and as much as I will miss it,,,,I am looking forward to moving on to the next beast on the bench.
This was a low budget build that wouldn't pass my normal quality control,,,but I've got way too much time on it as is, so it'll just have to be......I learned some stuff.

Nice stuff SG! Funny that you should mention the TDR. That's the amp I've been plinking on for about 3 weeks now. Still one of my most favorites. And just today I got a pm from a new member saying he has just completed one. AB763s and 6V6s are a nice combo.

Thank you Sir!
I can't agree more about this amp...
I play a little game here I like to call "Amp Wars" and this thing won 10 out of the last 10 matches....

It just figures that I enjoy it sooo much, but built it for someone else.
But I am thrilled that it's getting off of my bench!!   :occasion14:
Here's a 'better' pic I snapped with my cell phone

what does the boost do?
Adds or subtracts the bypass cap from the first stage... :sleepy2:

Yeahhhh man, CROSS IT OFF THE LIST!  :happy1:

The guy came to pick it up and stayed and played for about a half hour, and was really happy with it.
He's got a ton of pedals to put in front of it,,but still enjoyed the pure simplicity and sweet tone and reverb.

I removed the bypass cap from the reverb send triode to give him a better usable range on the pot....that seems to be my patented move.

Cool Amp SILVERGUN

only ..... RHINOL seems to be the name that a friend of mine could have given to an amp .......he is an apothecary

as is something that it is particularly suited if you have nose problems   :l2:

Sorry  :icon_biggrin:

No, really, nice amp

One notable move that I incorporated on this was to put the input V1 socket right near the input so I could have all short runs, and run the tone stack on a separate little board, right back to the volume control and right into the second stage all within that tight little area...
The chassis was already punched for 3 novals, so I had to put it somewhere,,and I thought this was kinda clever.

...probably got the idea from staring at some Soldano gutshots

Well, we found that you have not violated any copyrights, yours is RINOL not RINOIL

I would like to have all of your energy, each month a new amplifier  :notworthy:
