I'm trying to draw a Visio 12 pin socket for compactron tubes
because there are 12 pin and a free space (an ideal 13° pin that is missing)
this thing is no simple to do (to me), I think I've found a way to do it, but if someone has a ready shape it will be welcome
If no one has one I'll try to draw a decent version and I'll share it here
Thanks

Is this good enough?

Thanks Drgonzonm and Steve
@ Drgonzonm
I'm a beginner with Visio and I haven't an answer for your question, anyway thanks
@ Steve
Please can you post or send me the corresponding .vsd file ?
Thanks
Franco
p.s.: For those who are experienced with Visio, I think this may be useful

K check your email.

K, I'll email you tonight.
Pete, I'd like to see what you have please. You probably put more thought into it. :icon_biggrin:
All I did was steal a base pic from Duncan, drop it into Visio and then started dropping little circles. on top of the base pic. When done, I just slid the base pic over.

Many thanks my friends

here's what i came up with: it's patterned from a chinese compactron socket i used in one of my builds. PM your email addy if you'd like to have the visio stencil.

Thanks Pete
Based on the shapes you and Steve sent me previously, I draw this version
please can you give a try and see if all works correctly ?
(I mean connection points, measures, scaling function and what ever you know can be wrong)
Thanks

Now that's pretty!
-
yes it is.
since when can we upload .vsd files? since we're at it...how about allowing .vss files as well so we can exchange visio stencils.

here it is in SAE.

Probably since Doug started using Visio.
I'll send him a message about the *.vss files.
-
Thanks for the confirm that it is usable
..... what is SAE ? I remember SAE as something related with the viscosity of the motor oils
good idea to ask Doug about the compatibility with .vss files

SAE in this context = inch measurement.

How can you make the numbers scale with the image on Franco's vsd file?

I don't think you can. But why scale it? It's already at full size.
What happened to your "I need a transformer" topic? Someone delete it for you???

I just wanted to know for no other reason as to know. I found a website that explains it. I am very used to using programs that allow text to be converted to art. Just a question.
I deleted the transformer topic. I am going to start a new one when my mind is more clear and I have more information.

None of the custom stencils that I made will scale the text. You can change the font size but this is not the same as scaling and the alignment will most likely be off. Anyhow, I created those symbols full size. IOW, they are the same size as the real components. That makes it very nice when doing a layout. They were never meant to be resized.
I thought you would have had to ask someone to delete a topic that contained replies from someone else.

Testing file attachment for *.vss files...
EDIT... works fine. Same filesize restrictions.

> what is SAE ? I remember SAE as something related with the viscosity of the motor oils
Society of Automotive Engineers. (Mostly USA, going back to the dawn of the automobile.)
There are specific scientific ways to specify viscosity, but the SAE classification ranges have become widely accepted for engine oils. SAE numbers account for an oil's viscosity changing with temperature, for specific temperatures found in engines.
But SAE wrote standards for EVERYTHING. Bolts. Flanges. Bellhousing patterns.
When I go in the store to buy a wrench, recently I have a choice of Metric and "SAE". I am sure SAE has a standard for metric wrenches. However I "just know" that SAE on a wrench-pack means "odd fractions of an inch", the sizes I need for a 1966 Ford tractor or half of a 1994 Chevy truck. (GM "metrified" in the 1970s, except they did not change the bolts in existing engine designs. And the basic Chevy V-8 dates to 1955. So I need Inch to work on the engine, Metric to work on body or springs, and who-knows to work on engine accessories bolted to the body.)

Thanks
@ Steve and Doug for the compatibility of .vss files
@ PRR for the interesting explanation about SAE
@ Pete for the photo of the Duodecar socket for Compactron Tubes (not to be confused with the Duodecal socket)
Pete
have you under hand that socket ? if so, please, can you quote it with (metric) measures ?
(I've a pair of those sockets, but they are lost in some place of my "shop")
Thanks

I spent one hour in my "shop" and I've find one of the Dodecar socket that I have
(http://i.imgur.com/TQPhecX.jpg)
in this version of the socket a (at least) 27mm hole is required on the chassis (the socket diameter is 26.4mm)
the mounting holes are 3.5mm diameter and the center of this holes is placed at 16.5mm from the center of the socket

You know nothing about Visio. Yet you try to be so helpful. You are really precious.

I added the connection points to the 6 x 2 rows Tagboard (the tagboard I had on my library was missing the connection points)
and I've draw a 18 x 2 rows Tagboards with connection points and scaled with the measures of some real 18 x 2 rows Tagboards I've

if someone is interested, here attached is the .vss file

As far as getting text to scale in Visio, I find it easier to make numbers and letters with line elements instead of using text. Then, when you upsize or downsize something, the only thing you might need to do is change the line thicknesses. I started doing this after noticing that when I imported CAD drawings the text and numbers were line elements and not actual text.
By the way I have been using Visio since it was first created by the two guys who got rich selling it to Microsoft. I think that was around 1995. IMHO, Microsoft has been making it worse since then unless you are an IT person. I still use version 2003 and I have produced thousands of photovoltaic and wind energy plans with it. Where it kicks CAD program butt, is it's ease of integrating any kind of graphic into the vector program and its WYSISYG output. It also is so easy to use as opposed to any CAD program. The ability to build customized templates with ease is also wonderful. I have even trained my wife to draw Renewable Energy plan sets in Visio in a little more than a month and the drawing part was easy. The electrical calc training took most of the time. If we used AutoCAD, I might have gotten that done in a couple of years.

Great to have this drawing. I'm going to need a 9 pin Novar compactron part for visio too, and I also used Visio pre microsoft, but not at all since until lately. I'm re learning it so to speak, so if anyone with talent has one, I'd love to get it.
That socket is the one for the 7868 tubes like I'm using to build the Plexi in stout chassis amp.
-
That socket is the one for the 7868
I would just use a 9 pin noval and enlarge to 1-1/8" diameter.

So far, that's what I had in mind, but after reading about scaling issues, I thought I'd ask.
-
I have three noval shapes. They are all 3/4" diameter to match the size hole I need to punch for a socket. I enlarged them to 1-1/8" before I posted that reply. They looked fine even though the numbers stayed the same font size.
