Title: Weak tremolo in Vibro Champ
Post by: dude on May 07, 2015, 02:09:03 pm
Just turned on the Tremolo in a Vibro champ I just got, works but not right.

If I turn up the speed past 1 or 2 the speed is way too fast and noisy up the dial, the intensity pass 1 or 2 terrible tremolo sounding and noisy.

All original tremolo caps and R's, should I replace the three old big disc caps, .01, .01 and .02 and one E cap there?

It is worth trying. The modification is reversible.

A nice mod is to replace the 0.01 caps with 0.02. It slows down the tremolo a bit. I think that it sounds a lot better.

If the can cap is original, I'd change it.

You can just tack those bigger trem caps in there across the existing ones and try it. Bigger caps = slower freq. Pretty easy.

Changing the tube should be the first thing you do.

OK, I'll try that . I did put some used USA tubes in but the tremolo tube could have been weak or bad.

Also, that speaker question about dropping the voltage in my PT tranny (breaking in speakers), that 2K7 I  zero movement like you said, I had to go to 10 ohms to get 3.5Vav, probably would have matched Ted Weber's Calculator with a 5 ohm. who has 5 ohm R in there supply, not me. Thanks for that answer.
