Something I don't get to do is try out other amps. Yesterday I was lucky enough to play some. I tried out a DR Z and a couple Friedmans. I was BLOWN AWAY by the Friedman. Both the 100w and the 40 watt had the high gain tone with the fat low end that I've been striving to build. I know the 100 watt is based off of JTM 45 with some gain mods. The 4th 12ax7 is probably part of that mod but not sure. To me it almost sounds like an added gain stage in parallel since the tone was so big. Anyone know anything about these particular amps? Or chime in with any info regarding high gain technology as this is my next project.
