Title: Wire Voltage Rating
Post by: ncusack on May 13, 2015, 02:38:12 pm
Hello,

I'm wondering if someone here can tell me about the voltage rating printed on wire insulation. If a wire is labeled for 300V is that for both AC and DC voltages? Im curious if 300V wire could be used to extend a PT secondary wire or if 600V should be used? the transformer is 300-0-300VAC.

I believe that rating might be insulation breakdown value, I'm thinking the "normal" wire most build with is stranded 20-22ga, cloth or pvc coated.  you can search the forum, there should be quite a trove of info on "wire size", "wire rating" etc.
