Hi guys, Just for laughs I want to PIMP this amp. :think1:
OK, a bit of back ground.
I bought this amp with a Charvette 150 guitar and like the guitar it was bought new in 1989 and both were never played.
On inspection of the amp I was concerned that not being played the caps may be nackered.
I don't know how good these amps were in the day but being made in Korea I guess SO SO.
Fired up with frozen pots(stuck on 0) has a few crackles once freed.
The 8" speaker is ordinary sounding but there is some good basis for some tweaking, MAYBE.
Has an overdrive switch (BLASTER) :l2: :l2: that also has some basis to a good sound.
I have always wanted to restore some vintage SS stuff but this is about as vintage as I can find :sad2:
As luck would have it I bought a marshall valvestate that was not working (gutted it ) and had thoughts of rehousing the guts, on inspection and a schem found charing around the power transistors TDA2050.
Some new one installed and whatever happened after that I don't remember :think1:
So when I saw the TDA2030 on the schem supplied I was sure that I had a couple of TDA2050 in my crap box, and I did. :worthy1:
I know very little about this stuff but know enough to be intrigued.
Comparing the two transistors seems that one could sub the other.
I could just swop them and give it a blast as the amp has no real value, but I thought I'd just see what you guys think.

Looking at the data sheets, they seem close enough to try, the only thing that stands out, the '30 lists drain current at 500 or 900mA (full pwr?) where the '50 only shows quiescent values, but the '50 looks beefier everywhere else. anyway, fwiw.

Hey shooter, The amp has no value as it is and the only reason in the change is just to give it more output power and the hope that it may have some quirkie sounds/tone.

give it more output power
I'm thinking changing to a "higher power" chip without any other changes won't gain you much. If it's just to play with, try dropping your spk impedance to 2ohms, or maybe adding REALLY big caps and try to bring B+ up 2 -5vdc.
Not sure if your "30 is good, if so, I'd leave it till I fryed it, then move up to the 50 and hopefully - success

Hey shooter, I like to just jump right in there and see what happens.
Transplant successful :headbang:
She NO 10w any more.
Sounds pretty good.
At some time I will rehouse it into a head and give it a bit of an "80s" look just for kicks. Thanks

Transplant successful
I like that approach, I'm glueing a Marantz to a bogen to a homebrew, add volts, and walla, another frank is born :icon_biggrin:

COOL.

If you keep the original PT, then the output power will NOT be different.
The chip does not make power. The Power Supply does that. The chip throttles raw power into the shape of your fine tones. The '50 chip "can" throttle a bigger power supply. But if you put it on the power supply scaled for the '30 chip, you will get the same power as a '30.

Dual exhausts. Self-spinning hubcaps. Chrome spot-lamps. Naked-lady hood ornament. Cup (beer) holder.
(I'm conspiring to pimp a minivan. Red-hot glas-pak muffler and coffee-can tailpipe.)

conspiring to pimp a minivan
Had a guy pull in to the beer, bait, n gas the other day with a minivan setting on a F250 chassis with an 8" lift, had an automatic 3 step stairs when he shut off the.....thing!, canary yellow
