I've been going over my 2008 Peavey Pacer conversion to a single channel DR AB763 with bias trem. It has been overly bright for my taste, so I'm trying to soften it up a little without going overboard. The speakers I have tried were just ones I had on hand but haven't actually bought one especially for it, but am now ready. After doing a lot of research on it, this Wearhouse model has got some great reviews for use in a DR. Anybody with hands on experience with these?? Platefire

Cotton flannel grill cloth is the secret. I have an old shirt I can send you. You'll have to put a couple patches on it though. :icon_biggrin:

How about I just drape a horse blanket over the front and it will be like a switchabe-----throw it back off, drape it over on, or I could drape it over in layers like a vartble resistor!

Now you're talking! Get one of those pretty striped ones like Trigger used to wear. I still like the flannel idea. Has that classy, Al Borland look.

I don't have any 'hands on' with them personally, but I do like the idea of the 30-day exchange policy if you buy direct from them.
So you get to try it out and see what you like.
From their website:
WGS has a 30 day satisfaction guarantee. If you decide the speaker you purchased was not the right choice, you may request a one-time exchange or one-time refund (not both). Buyer is responsible for shipping charges both directions in this case. Also buyer is responsible for any difference in price. Exchanges & refunds must be pre-authorized. Send an email to Daniel@wgs4.com to request this RMA number. Note that returned products must be in "like-new" condition.
Please Note: we can only accept returns on direct purchases (eBay or our website) and on warranty claims. We do not offer exchanges on purchases from dealers.
If I was trying to soften up the highs I would have to try the G12C/S model:

Speaker selection is tough and can be expensive. First thing is ask yourself at what volume will you be using the amp? Some speakers sound bright until you get them moving and there is no benefit in paying alnico prices if you never push them. I have some Warehouse speakers and I like them. I would have to mention the Eminence Wizard in a 12" as being a very balanced speaker at lower volumes.
I find the WGS speakers to need a little pushing, but they do sound great. I prefer them in closed back or partially closed. I got my hands on a tone tubby recently and it is a great speaker but costly.
I am not a fan of any bright sounding speaker and have found jensens to be bright sounding to me. I can always roll off the tone more as I never really have it up all the way unless I am playing a Plexi/Humbucker and that is not bright anyway.

I've got a Weber in it that sounds pretty good on upper register but when I hit a low G on the big E string it makes an awful double note odd harmonic that I just can't tolerate anymore. I'm really considering putting a Cannabis Rex in it because I put it in another combo I have and really like it.
I read the Wearhouse speaker shootout in a DR and as Silvergun pointed out, the G12C/S was the winner. I haven't considered the Emi Wizard, I will check it out. I do strive to keep the volume down and that's why I have been using my DIY Champ at Church were I do 100% of my live band playing. I' ve even considered putting a MV on the DR to make it more lower volume friendly. I would have to install it on the back though and that's not too convenient. So I have kind of ruled that out for now. Will just continue to tweak it to bring it around little by little. Platefire

Tone Quest Report mag. through the years has done many speaker reviews and interviewed a number of different speakers companies.
Eminence and Tone Tubby (as was WGS) were interviewed and have reviewed different models and they really like them. I think the speaker models they don't like they just don't mention them.
They loved the WGS speakers they tried and that's why I bought a WGS 15" alnico, which I really like as well. (I haven't played through 15" before so I can't compare to anything but still it sounds/plays/feels real good to me.)
The hemp cone TT 12" alnico I have sounds great to me too. The TT is/has a fatter mid range then the WGS but not overly so. They both have great hi's and great bottom end to me. The TT is a LOUD speaker. (I bought a TT 12" hemp alnico 25w, but I still haven't tried it out.)
I've run my Fender tweed 5E3, Fender tweed 5G9 and Gibby GA77 through both speakers and no complaints. I played through a BF SR with Jensen alnico 4x10's for years and that's my base sound in my head.
See if you can find any of their reviews. (They do sell back issues and you can get them on disk too.)

Thanks for sharing your experience on the TT speakers. I'm sure they would sound great in my DR but I don't think I want to go that price. The WGS 12C/S & Emi CR is more in the range I want to spend. I did read about the Wizard and most reviews described it as bright, others day well rounded.

I'm not saying I think the TT is any better sounding then the WGS or any other good/great sounding speaker.
I am tying to say that TQR mag likes many Eminence speakers just as much as a TT or WGS or others. I trust their ears at this point. They have played though a LOT of gear.
Depends on the amp and what the sound is your after.

Consider making a larger back. Sort of a semi closed. I just put the amp very close to a wall to get an idea. I got a G12Q which is a 20 Watt speaker and sounded good. I did not want to have to crank it to get it to breakup, but I could not get a good defined bottom snap. Same problem with a couple of Veterans I had. When I put them in a closed back the bottom responded extremely well. They were broken in too.
My problem is I simply prefer Alnico and the warmth and compression of Celestion Blues for gritty playing. I know they are expensive, but I have only had to buy them once and they are the only speaker I have never gotten tired of. Those and Altec 417 and JBL 130 for clean stuff. I have always kept them and had them for years and for me that is saying something.
They make a lot of different speakers and enclosures and all of our ears are at different levels of hearing loss
I am just trying to give you some feedback. I know I like to get feedback when I am shopping.

On the 12Q, is that a recommendation or not quiet?
On adding an extra panel to make a closed cab, do you leave a little opening to relieve sound pressure?
I looked at the Celistion Blue and noticed it was 15 watts. I guess long as you didn't crank it, it would be OK. How do you operate your volume with it? Platefire

Since I have speakers I like better than the 12Q, I do not use it much. I do thing for a lower cost speaker it is great. The Celestion Blue started its life not as a musical speaker. The 15 watts is really not max. Consider an AC30 having 2 and cranking it. You know you are at times over 30 watts.
I would not recommend it, but I have a Celestion blue in a 40 watt amp and a 30 watt Weber in a 45 Watt. That is my classic rock/blues sound though. I have put a blue in my Deluxe and really liked it. I swapped it for an old greenback

Stuck in Dallas Airport with delayed flights----ugg!
Don't WGS make a greenback clone? I'll do a search and see---got time to kill!
