Title: Philips AD1055/W8 speakers For guitar??
Post by: Toxophilite on October 24, 2015, 03:55:51 pm
So I'm looking at pair of Philips Ad1055/W8 drivers
They look reasonably high powered(judging by the magnet) but I'm pretty sure they're hifi speakers
The seller says they sound good with nylon string guitars, so good for cleans and maybe better for PA like sounds than distortion sounds, which is okay for me.
The rubber surrounds are original and they look like generally they've been front mounted
The only hifi speakers I've tried for guitar are Altec or JBLs and they're usually in a league unto themselves as far as build quality/ruggedness goes, though I know magnavox did a lot of both as did jensen etc etc.
I did find this:
This beautiful 10-inch woofer is from 1969. The cone of paper with a rubber edge. Product code is 4304 078 70 261.
The speaker may be taxed up to 40 watts in a closed 35-liter box. box. The resonant frequency is 24 Hz, the frequency curve runs through to 1000 Hz.
Specifications

Anybody have any experience with these or any input? and does this mean the frequency response only goes to 1k?

the price is extremely reasonable

I can't speak specifically about those speakers. But I can say I've blown some pretty good hifi speakers by plugging them into a 30W guitar amp.

Excellent!
well I picked them up out of sheer curiousity
At $25 for the pair it was a pretty safe bet. i knew i could sell them for at least that much if I didn't like them
Attached to a baffle(but no cab) they're nice sounding with especially nice chime-y top end but not terribly efficient, I'd even say quiet and I compared them with a Rola and an Emminece I attached to the same baffle which were significantly louder at the same settings.
So probably put them up on the local craigslist!
