He passed away earlier today. Pneumonia & Intestinal complications. Damn this is a bad year from our generation of music legends.
RIP Mr. Fry.

Typo... it's Frey.

From 1 of his solo albums, on the Miami Vice episode of the same name, Smugglers Blues, slick tune, nice groove, nice slide, I think it's P90's. RIP Mr Frey.

Yeah, I listened to Smugglers Blues plus got started on some old Eagle videos---Lying Eyes and Hotel California from back in the late 70's. I does make you feel a little strange with the old rockers you grew up with passing. I never played any of their songs but back in the 70's when I was doing my club thing, their music was everywhere. I guess in my mind I still visualize them young like they were in the 70's not thinking that they all grew old just like me. My prayers go out to his family and friends--his race is run. Platefire

Used to play "Take it Easy" with the country rock band I played a few years ago. I was lucky enough to see the Eagles in 1996 on their German tour. Great, great show. Very sad to see Glenn go.
RIP.

I like the Eagles.
Frey always was portrayed as the Nazi in the band by other band members.
He was not my favorite band member
I would have to say that Randy Meisner and Don Felder were probably my favorite band members

Don Felders guitar phrasing was incredible
Randy Meisner's voice was awesome
His vocal in Take it to the limit in this video is awesome

But, I'm still glad he came along. The combination was perfect for the time. I heard 'Take It Easy' on the radio for the first time, just about the time I got my draft notice, Spring of '72. Got deferred 'til late August. Heard 'Witchy Woman' one weekend, that Fall, laying on my bunk in the Basic Training Company B barracks. They were very important in carrying me through 'til August '74, when I got out and went back to school.
It's a good thing that information about our favorite groups was more difficult to come by then, than now. We can love them, not knowing their faults. So, his passing is a stark reminder of mortality. And, I wish that he could have lived much longer. The past few months have been the same reminder, as well, with the passing of other greats. Bowie was right there in Germany with me, '73-'74.

Glenn Frey was a great human being. Artists in groups fight amongst themselves and that's all there is too it. Glenn just didn't care to engage himself in the band's bullshit. Kind of like Ringo. I will miss him greatly. When all of the Beatles are gone, if I'm still on this earth, I will miss Ringo and George the most.

I will miss Ringo and George the most.
I definitely miss George. Just recently, a friend (who's lifelong passion is studio work) and I had a discussion about a book he read. I don't remember the name, but I wrote it down and have it on my Kindle Book. He was telling me of back during the Abby Road sessions, Ringo would sit off to himself while the other band BS was going on. Then, when the studio cleared for the day, and they were trying to figure out how the recordings should be mixed, they would often wonder how they should proceed without the band member to advise. Out steps Ringo and reminds them that he was a Beatle, and knew how it all should be.
So, he was known among those guys as the Beatle to finish the work, when the others personalities got in the way.

All the interviews I have seen from other members and documentaries kind of point to Glenn as the guy who played dirty
No matter, I still like the music :)
I am just glad Don Felder got membership status and a piece of the Eagles pie
I really like Don Felder based on several interviews I have seen him in
That did not happen for the later members like Timothy Smidt and Joe Walsh
They are just paid musicians
Frey had a big hand in that monkey business

I was NEVER an Eagles fan as I thought the early style was better represented by other bands and the later style was fluff pop. The only two songs I can barely stand to listen to are Witchy Woman and Take it to the Limit. However, there is no denying the talent. The revolving door members were golden. I always thought Poco was a monster band - in all its incarnations as well. The songwriting and musicianship is unmatched. I would take them in a second over the Eagles. There was just something about the Eagles that even dulled the Poco influence. And Joe Walsh, in my opinion, is why they were really successful in the first place.
Y'all know my stance on the Beatles! :icon_biggrin: It's funny how a lot of these bands don't realize what they had until it's over. I loved George's work. Seeing Paul in concert a few years ago, he paid tribute to John and George - probably more than John deserves! When Alice Copper was recording and mixing the song Elected in 1972, John showed up in the studio and told Alice that Paul would have sung that song fantastic. He meant it. In 1982 Ritchie Blackmore and David Coverdale were rolling around on the floor beating the crap out of each other back stage at a Rainbow concert, while the members of Queen were looking on in amazement. After Jon Lord died four years ago, they contacted each other about a possible Deep Purple Mk3 reunion. Those fleeting moments of brilliance ruined by personalities and/or chemical dependencies. Many times its too late to go back. Life is sometimes brutally short and certainly plays no favorites.

I never followed the Eagles music, but always liked it when I heard it.
It was only a few years ago that I got into their stuff a bit deeper.
I don't really want to play any of their songs, they are just great to listen to.
