Thanks guys.  This DR started life as a DRRI but has transformed into a AB763 p2p amp...  I think the owner will be happy...  I guess the dang snow has held up my parts order so it will have to wait a few days before I can try her out

You do really nice work.

You continue to set the bar very high! Nice work.

I've had a set of gut shots for a '64 DR for some time. I put them on my website just for you. Thought you might want to keep some original pics for reference. I don't know if I'll leave the pics there very long, so get'em while you can if you want them.

Thank you for the photos.  Will be useful in my current DR build.

Thanks

Is the 2x10 configuration a Fender option for the DRRIs, or was this one owner-modified?

Not sure about the DRRI with 2x10s.  Since I never shop for amps I have no idea whats out there.  This one I am building showed up chassis only (which I prefer)...

Looking at the first two pics on your link... Where did the cab with the two Warehouse speakers come from?

Judging by the pix on your site, the output tranny is enormous; Looks to me as big as a Twin and bigger than a Bassman/Super but in any event way oversize for a Deluxe. I'll be interested in the sound report.

My thoughts exactly about the OT. I have a full set of MM Deluxe Reverb iron in my DR. My MM OT looks nothing like that beast.

FBFDR-O-FS = single 8 ohm tap, 8K primary, and it's one of their "FatStack" units ("custom-designed Mercury Magnetics transformers that have extra iron. In an output transformer it extends the bass frequency response" -- it better, for 175 clams!).

Yeah man those MM trannies are huge and heavy.  That is what I received and what the customer requested I use.  I am guessing he dropped some good money for those MM.  I normally buy Classic Tones and they sound great to my ears.  Also use some Heyboers here and there as well...

I am guessing this thing will be a beast once I get her fired up...

The pot on back?  Dwell?

Yes, Mercury Magnetics have actually successfully marketed to the player.  They are offering these as sets.  That Output Transformer and Power Transformer will run KT66 efficiently.

The cab is not a Fender cab that I know of being a 2 10.  A lot of guys are buying 2 10 cabs from Mojotone to put their Super Reverbs in.  Makes the amp more club friendly.

Great work MSScaggs.  I am sure the guy is going to be very pleased with the hand wired Deluxe Reverb.

That's going to be an interesting amp and it might very well be a killah amp (I would like it as I like clean and jazz tone and I've boosted my old SF PR and DR with 6L6 & larger trannies because that's what we did back then) but at the risk of whatever, it is IMO NOT going to sound like a Deluxe Reverb!

Since their stock OTs are "rated for 50% more power than stock", what is this monster rated for?

Also, am I confused or did Blackface Deluxe OTs have a 6.6K primary winding, not 8K?  I know it's not a huge difference but...

Every Vintage Guitar issue I've ever seen has a full page, color add for Mercury Magnetics.  Both friends I built amps for insisted on MM iron.  I like the Princeton Reverb I built for myself with Doug's transformers better - not as bass heavy and slightly better feel/touch response.  And MUCH less expensive unless you're a professional builder with the quantity discount.

Sorry for the semi-rant.  This is proof that marketing works!

Respectfully,
Chip

The customer requested I use his current MM trannies in this build so I am.  I don't have an opinion just yet till I hear this amp.  If we both decide these transformers are no good I'm sure they will get swapped out.  I am guessing he has a lot of $$$ in these already.

That would be an interesting thingamabob to build, and simple...an amp that could switch between 2-3 output transformers. Sounds like a job for an octal socket plug...switching OTs under power could generate some serious voltage spikes, lol.

That video gives an even better impression of how clean your builds are Mike. Just beautiful.

You mentioned tubes in the video. What bottles are going in there?

And please don't get me wrong about the Mercury Magnetics iron. It's going to have a HUGE sound - just not exactly Deluxe Reverb sound.

Cheers,
Chip

Hey Chip, thanks for your comments, very nice of you.

The Glass is what the customer sent which is JJs in the power (6V6) and rectifier (GZ34), and a nice combination of NOS in the the preamp section along with some EH tubes for a verb driver etc...  I am curious myself how the MM stuff will sound as I rarely see or use it.  Too rich for my blood and I am a little partial to Classic Tones for Fender stuff.  I do like Heyboer as well.

I'm headed out of town for a few and when I get back I will burn her in and double check everything, then ship it off and get started on yet another PR. Funny side note:  I ordered all the parts I needed for the new PR build except ------ the damn chassis LOL.  I'm losing it guys

Cheers

Once again Mike
Your workmanship is awesome

I posted a link to your video on one of the tech only groups on facebook

You should get some hits off of that

Thank you Doug, I appreciate that.

So I fired that Deluxe up this morning through a little 8Ω 1x12 cab I had and man it sounded really great.  I'm not sure if its those high dollar MM trannies or not but it really was impressive to my ears.  All packed up and on the way to Fedex.

Next project, yet another PR for a guy in Cincinnati...

Any audio/video to go along with that amp?

Doug the only video I have is the one showing the chassis that I posted earlier.  I didn't have time this weekend to do a sound sample as I was gigging and needed to ship the amp...  I thought it sounded great, lots of beef with those giant trannies..
