Title: 6SK7 remote-cuttoff pentode - Use as V1 ??
Post by: kagliostro on January 31, 2016, 08:35:38 am
I was doing a search on my shop for a 6BA6 tube that a friend is looking for and I've find a pair of 6SK7

so I recall I've seen this tube used as PI in an amp present on a thread of our friend TIMBO

With reference to this other thread

http://el34world.com/Forum/index.php?topic=18280.msg186541#msg186541 (http://el34world.com/Forum/index.php?topic=18280.msg186541#msg186541)

where was discussed about the use of the 6SK7 as tube compressor I was wondering which will be the effect of the 6SK7 as PI like in the

schematic that TIMBO posted, where the circuit isn't optimized for compression purpose

---

Also, if I've understand correctly, a remote-cuttoff tube is hard to drive to cuttoff so ....

if I use a 6SK7 as V1 (instead of 6SJ7) in a circuit like the 5C1, what will happen ? Will this give an amp with more headroom ?

Since the input voltage is quite low at V1, having headroom is never really an issue unless you are driving it hard with a pedal, in which case, it is likely that you want the stage to clip anyway, so having a remote-cutoff tube in that position kinda defeats the purpose.

Right, thanks for answering, I've just realized that was a stupid question
