Title: Super nice Gretsch
Post by: rosincore on February 18, 2016, 06:44:04 pm
Several months ago I installed a set of TV Jones pickups in and set up this gorgeous Gretsch. Owner is a Brian Setzer fan as you can see. I will say it changed the tone of the instrument and sounds just like his recordings. Owner was very happy with the results.

Nice!
That's a 5420 right? with new pickups?
I thought of getting the aspen green model at one point
If they had made a red one I probably would've bought it.
I had a black 5120 that I overhauled like crazy (even knocked out that^%$%#$ 'sound post' under the bridge) sounded way better
None of my 1960s Gretsch's have those posts under the bridge, just braced like archtops like these guitars are

I just wound my own filtertron from a kit online. I bought proper wire of the right gauge
It wasn't too hard and cost about $50 Can (which is about 25 cents US right now)

TV Jones pickups are definitely the way to go in these. I've got a 5120 with a Supertron in the Neck and a TV Classic Plus in the bridge, and it took that guitar from ho-hum to nailing the Chet sound.
