A number of years ago this little Vox hybrid amp found it way onto the bench. It was dead except for the lamp. I am a tube guy and my knowledge of transistor circuits is nil so I deferred opening this up. The the owner asks if I can make an ALL tube amp out of it---that I can do. So I gutted it and rebuilt it. I went with a single ended design which I believe now that I look at it looks like a Champ circuit. It is a very simple build as you can see but boy does it ever sound good. It has been used to record numerous times. Just a tiny bit of single ended hum, barely noticeable, but it sure does work nice.

A few more photos of the little Vox rebuild.

Nice job. I like projects like this. Which Vox model is that cab? I stuffed a 18W Plexi into a little Pathfinder cab and just recently put my L'il Maggie in a Pathfinder cab too.

I believe it was something like model 15 R or such. It had one 12 AX7 in it for preamp and from there into solid state, which is a state I don't visit-lol. I stay in the tube nation.

That sounds like a Cambridge. That's a cab I've been interested in also. Would you mind making a couple measurements? I'd like to know the length and width of the upper back panel. Also the length and width of the cutout for the controls on the top of the amp. THX

I will contact the owner and see if we can get those measurements for you.

I was able to stop and get some more photos to share as well as those dimensions.
