Title: couple of transformer questions (Allen)
Post by: Shack on March 08, 2016, 10:39:55 am
I am wondering which OT from allen will suit my PR build.  The TO 20, TO 22 or TO 26....I have the TP25 PT in there with a 12 inch speaker and tube sockets will be wired to accept EL-34 if I choose.
The TO 20 is in the Sweet Spot amp....and it has a TP 20 power tranny too, which wasnt on the list to buy ( wonder what the difference is between the TP 20 and TP 25 ?

thanx

Hoffman sells very good OTs.

Any of those OTs will work. Specs are on his site.

The TO20 was basically developed for upgrading a Blues Junior. The TO20B has better bass response. The TO22 is a Deluxe reverb OT. My opinion is gofor a Deluxe Reverb OT and don't look back. It will give your PR much more balls and then some. I used DR OT tranny in my HPR and it's outstanding. Sluckey's recommendation of Dougs OT's is a good one. Another couple of options are:

this classic tone is a very nice OT

I know that Slucky.....I was asking a different question and using the Allen trannies as examples per the way they are advertised...

Then.........the 041318 deluxe reverb transformer here would be about the same as the TO 22 then I presume....specs are the same, and thats the one I put in my 5E3 .

Sorry , just didnt want to buy one thing and then see where another may have been better,  my funds are limited.

I suppose I got caught up in the price differences...thinking that a DR OT that costs 70.00 must have something more too it than a 50.00 one , even tho specs are about the same.

BTW  you could even run 6L6, 5881, Kt88 or even 6550's with that PT it has lots of current handling capability. I have that PT in my PR and it is rock solid and huge. Coupled with the upgrade DR OT and I doubt you are going to switch to EL34's anytime soon. I run JJ 6V6 in mine and I have to use attenuator in the house. I haven't tried 6L6's yet, but they are sitting here...   :-)

that's if the bottles will fit in the chassis..
