Just heard a news story about flooding in Houston. I lived in Houston years ago. About fifteen or twenty years ago bought an amp, supposedly a 1964 Super Reverb (AB763 circuitry), from a popular Houston guitar store. Put $600 cash down. Agreed to pay the rest after their tech cleaned up something I didn't like about it cosmetically. Houston had a tropical storm a day or two later that dumped over one trillion gallons of rain in the area. The amp was in the store under at least four feet of water.
Went to the store after the water level went down. Tech was removing chassis from the amps and was drying them out. Looked at the inside of the chassis from the amp I had purchased and noticed no blue molded caps. Looked closer at the circuitry. It was from the early 1970s. Definitely a silver faced amp with a replacement blackfaced faceplate. Pointed it out to the tech. Got my money back within seconds with many apologies. A flood down in Texas saved me that day.
Thanks
Mike
