Title: cold cathode lights

Has anyone thought of putting one of these in their amp or speaker if the amp is open or has a clear cover? Says 12v input and draws 5.0 mA and also can be sound activated with $9 separate module. I was thinking it would look awesome but would it cause a lot of extra noise?  The short ones are 4" long so they could be mounted closer to the power supply and away from the preamp area. Just a thought. I think Fender makes a bass amp cab that has a glowing red light in the ported area of the speaker cab.

What does it do which you can't do with simple clean-DC power LEDs?

Well I guess as far as emitting light the both will, but the two do not look anything alike. the cold cathode looks more like neon lighting glowing the full length of the light where the led's are several lights along a strip. So if the actual light was out of sight inside an amp not much difference but if you were seeing it behind a plexiglass cover you would see a lot of difference in the two. For 11 bucks it is a cheap experiment and could be very groovy.

I too fear supersonic hash aliasing down to contaminate the guitar signal.

45 years ago, I had a dorm mate that had a couple of light cabinets with colored christmas tree bulbs, a set up that lit up different bulbs based on frequency.  New technology for old approaches.  Its your equipment, so you can modify it any way you want.
